What You Can Do After A Job Interview
Pat yourself on the back and take a deep breath – you just survived the job interview! It probably wasn’t as bad as you thought it would be. Or, if you are fretting over stumbling over one or two answers – relax. You probably did better than you think.
What do you do now? Well, there will be some waiting involved. It is unlikely that the hiring manager made an immediate decision and they may not be finished interviewing other applicants.
So how many times have you already relived your interview answers in your head while waiting? This will only drive you crazy as you discover flaws that the interviewer probably didn’t even notice.
If you are serious about your job search, you should immediately get back to it, and not put all your eggs into one employer’s basket. If you are truly worried about something you said, try to determine if it really needs to be clarified or if you are just being hard on yourself.
So when would you want to offer clarification? Perhaps you applied for a job that requires driving a company vehicle. If you couldn’t remember how many traffic violations are on your driving record, than later realized you have less than you reported, you should tell them.
So when would you not want to bother the interviewer with additional information? Perhaps you were quoting sales results and made a small underestimation. This could simply be left alone.
Whatever you do, stay busy. Keep looking for other opportunities, and if you don’t get this job, don’t beat yourself up. Every interview process is a learning experience, and each interview is an opportunity to practice your interview skills.
If you really feel that you could have answered an interview question better, use this as an opportunity to improve before the next one. Practice makes perfect!
