Nobody Wants To Shop Where the Produce Is Stale

Your website acts as your store front. Your customer sees the site as your sales staff, help desk, and shipping department.  Here are five easy ways to make your webiste more profitable.

Keep Your Content Fresh

If you watch shoppers, they don’t enter stores where there are no other customers or stores that have a closed sign dangling on the door. What turns off prospective customers faster than anything else? – old content! When visitors see old dates on postings, it signals that there isn’t much activity at your store. The best way to keep customers coming back is to post fresh content on a regular basis and install a script that places the current date front and center on your website for your visitors to see. The script will automatically update the date everyday and make your store seem like the lights are on and you are ready for business.

Be Prepared To Answer Questions

Once visitors enter the store, they may want to inquire about your products . A customer service desk is requisite to answer all questions and concerns.  You can dealwith inquiries by providing a contact form where visitors leave their name and email. It should be a different form than where they subscribe to your newsletter or get a free gift. To help  minimize questions, have a Frequently Asked Questions page (FAQ). Make notes about what questions customers ask in the form you supply, then write a FAQ answering those concerns so the customer does not have to fill out a form to get their basic questions answered.

Give Visitors Several Ways to Leave Contact Information

There is nothing more crucial on the your site than keeping a list of your visitors. It is important to have at least three ways customers can subscribe to your list. Visitors should be able to sign up for your newsletter on your front page. Another great way to allow visitors to subscribe to your list is having an opt-in checkbox when they leave you a comment.  A third way, is offering free gifts in exchange for a subscription. Using an autoresponder will allow you to build your list of clients and keep track of which method of signing u is working best.  It can send out a series of emails at defined intervals automatically. Sending email helps you build a relationship with clients. After 5 to 7 emails, the odds of making a sale increases exponentially because the subscribers are becoming familiar with you.  It may seem like you are being bothersome to your clients, but they will be able to unsubscribe from your list if they no longer wish to hear from you.

Pop Up Windows , Autoresponder Lightboxes and Footer Ads

Pop up windows and lightboxes that appear when a visitor enters or leaves your web site have been shown to dramatically boost subscriber rates and sales. Even if you’ve never set these up before, you’ll be able to add a popup or lightbox to your site with ease.
Another way to get subscriptions is to provide a footer pop-up.  Although some webmaster find the footer ad to be bothersome to clients, research indicates that a footer ad can help increase sign-up rates. Experiment with placing footer ads on the front page of your site and/or on secondary pages.

Use Share Buttons For Viral Effects

Viral marketing has become one of the most powerful advertising methods on the internet. Use a Tell-A-Friend generator to create a quick, one-click button that you can add to your web site that will let your visitors tell their friends about your site. This will create a deluge of new targeted traffic .

All the tools mentioned here are available on the internet. Some are free and others are modestly priced. You should also visit other sites on the web to see the techniques other webmasters are using and emulate what they do well.  Make notes about what strategies are especially effective and find ways to incorporate them into your site.
