What Should I Use To Decorate My Tank?
Decorations make any aquarium look stunning. Amateur fish hobbyists expectantly wait for the time they can decorate their new tanks. But the common question is – what should I use to decorate my tank?
The answer to this question is simple. Only use decorations marked safe for aquarium use. You can use whatever themes you like be it a sunken treasure, Little Mermaid or a Sponge Bob Square Pants idea, the selections are endless. As long as you’re happy with your choices and they’re not toxic to the fish, you’re good to go and be creative.
Beware of putting anything on your tank. You can’t simply get a fancy looking stone in the backyard or beach to decorate your aquarium. They may contain harmful substances like dissolved pesticides and harmful bacteria that will kill your fish. Always get things from reputable aquarium supplies store with labels safe for aquarium use.
A little knowledge about your fish can also help. Different species of fish have different habitats they are accustomed to. Since you are partially recreating their original home, it is best that you know where your fish came from.
Fish that came from slow-moving waters prefer the lush greenery and soft covers of aquatic plants. So, you may put in very flexible decors and try to group decorative plants together. There are so many ornamental plants today that look so authentic you can hardly distinguish them from real plants. On the other hand, fish that came from fast-flowing water can benefit from strong and solid covers such as rocks, caves and logs. Here you can incorporate some pagodas, pirate ships and volcano-like structures.
It doesn’t mean that if your fish has a predilection to one type of aquarium you can’t use the others. You can mix and match as long as you gear it more to their preference. The aquarium is the home of your fish. Like humans who want to be comfortable in their own living quarters, fish behave just the same. Living more like in their natural home, your fish will be likely happy and healthy.
