Indie Label On The Come Up
Punchmode Productions was based by one of Hip Hop’s most underrated creative person in the rap industry. S.B has been making songs for atleast a decade and hasn’t got the attention he earned. With hits like “Suzuki Samurai,“ “I Don’t Need No Band” and “Jus U And Me“ it makes me wonder why he hasn’t got his reward in in the industry. Hip Hop is wrong if they think that a deal is everything. Indie M.C’s are making more currency than signed rappers. This is because independent M.C’s own all they’re music . They answer to nobody but themselves. If you could build a fan base of fifty thousand ,what do you need a deal for? You could sell your cd’s for three dollars and still make a cool net income, not to mention the digital sells. Who needs to be signed if they are making $100,000 dollars independently every album. Don’t spend your money on websites claiming they can get you a deal inside 30 days and so on . rather, use that currency to publicise your music calling. Once you establish a big enough buzz, you don’t have to find them they will look for you. I think this is a common mistake for artists on the rise, they are looking for labels. Let the labels look for you.
Indie music has it’s weaknesses just like major record labels . The good thing about independent music is most of the time you will get your dollars worth. i don’t mean the music you buy off the street in a jewel case with marker writing on it. I mean professionally wrapped Cd’s. If you were to buy a CD for ten dollars and it’s not professionally wrapped, then slap yourself, you have just been robbed. You shouldn’t pay no more than $5 dollars for unprofessional cd’s and that’s if your feeling good that day. But, if the Cd looks like it’s worth ten dollars then by all means purchase it. Most likely the M.C. has put some time into his album. The problem with Major Labels is 3 good songs and the rest garbage. I’m tired of spending twelve- fifteen dollars on Cd’s that aren’t worth ten cent. The only good song on the album, is the single they put out. If you are a signed artist, there should be three bad songs out of the 15, not vice versa. You get good quality audio frequency but, bad quality music, it’s time for a change.
