There is a confounding epidemic in today’s society and that is the use of oxycontin amongst our teens and young people. It can be argued that such a dangerous drug has never been so conventional and popular amongst young people. Addiction to oxycontin is the cause of exceedingly bad behavior, physical enslavement and even death. When your son or daughter is addicted to oxycontin, roxycontin or any narcotic that can be recognized as an opiate, you are in a desperate situation and a teen intervention should be considered.
Known on the streets as oxy, blues, garbage, junk, skunk and dope, oxycontin has made its presence alarmingly clear in middle America. It is an opiate, and is essentially synthetic heroin. It comes in a pill form, however swallowing it as a pill is one of the least common methods of abusing the drug for addicts. The pills are almost always snorted, injected, or even smoked when consumed by an addict.
When you contemplate the steps teens take to abuse this drug it can be kind of shocking. Some young people even smoke the substance by crushing a pill and lighting it on aluminum foil. This produces a harsh chemical high and is extremely detrimental to the lungs. Other teens like to snort the substance which is simply done by crushing a pill and sniffing the powder. Some teenagers get addicted to shooting the drug. This is especially dangerous since it almost always leads to additional heroin use as well. In addition to all of the other dreadful things this drug can do to a young person’s life, shooting the drug and using syringes can often times lead to viruses like hepatitis and AIDS.
Roxycontin addiction makes the user physically addicted to the drug. This means if the addict does not get the drug into their system they get violently ill and suffer until their body’s need for the substance is met. This includes nausea, hot and cold flashes, and excruciating body aches. It is pure suffering and it will go on for up to a week. This is the added load addicts of this narcotic carry on their shoulders. They too have the powerful psychological addiction that other drug addicts possess, but opiate addicts become physically dependent also.
This situation is very serious. If your teen is addicted to opiates they need help immediately. Do not think punishment or taking away their rights will improve this predicament. They are addicted to a powerful narcotic and measures like this will always make them want to use more. You need a teen rehab for your child, where they can accept the help and guidance they need. They will be able to detox from the drugs under their specialized care, and after several days of painful withdrawls they will be free from their physical dependence and can now work on the harder part of becoming sober.
If your son or daughter is bringing teen drug abuse into the house, you need a solution right away. When this occurs you need to find them a good teen treatment so that they can work toward becoming sober and living a good life again.
