Love Myself

December 5th, 2009

The ultimate lesson all of us have is unconditional love, which includes not only others but
ourselves as well.
–Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

Back in the days of my active disease I couldn’t even look at myself in the mirror…Oh sure I could comb my hair & stuff like that…But I mean really look at myself…Look into my eyes…I hated what I saw…There was filth & a loser who had to drink, who couldn’t not do drugs…Ashamed of my very existance…Maybe you didn’t have this problem but chances are if  your a real alcoholic…You did…

I’ve heard this called step 0…I came into the rooms of Alcoholics Anonymous & saw the steps up on the wall…I immediately saw step 4 & started to walk back out the door in defeat…But a guy…I’ll call him Alan…Welcomed me & told me I was the most important person in the room…It took over a year for me to make the decision that is required for step 1…But when  I finally made it I was on my way…Step 1…I can’t…Step 2…He can…Step 3…I’ll let Him…They told me to spend time in front of the mirror & say I love myself…I couldn’t do it at first…But eventually it came…I could look in my eyes & say I love myself…Today I work with others & try to help them find that they are children of God & have every right there is to be here…If no-one has told you today that they love you…God does & so do I

You’ll find unconditional love by giving it to others…Give like you have an endless supply…Live like today is your last…& love like you’ve never been hurt…Till next time…
