Humility & Responsibility

Am I humble…If I think so I probably am not…So goes the way with humility…The moment you think you have it you’ve lost it…I don’t lessen myself to be humble…It is said to be humble “I don’t think less of myself”…”I think of myself  less”When we place the needs of others before ourselves we start in humility…& when we do Step 3 & turn our lives over to the care of a Higher Power whom I choose to call God…We get out of the drivers seat of our lives…Imagine driving your car 50 miles an hour and then sliding over to the passenger seat to let God take over…Now of course this sounds insane & if you try you will more than likely crash…But that is what it is like to turn your life over to your Higher Power…Not the crash part…In my life God speaks to me in a small soft voice & if I am humble enough to be quiet I can hear it…& I don’t crash…Humility is absolutely wonderful because you don’t have to run the show anymore…You be quiet & listen for direction & then accept the lead…

Responsibility is sometimes a bit harder to achieve…Because we have to take accountability for our actions…It means when things go wrong because of something we have said or done…We hold our hand up & say “Yes it was me”…but on the flip side of the same coin with responsibility comes trust…We become known to be responsible therefore we are trust-able…It is a very good feeling for an Addict/Alcoholic when someone says “I have a very important need…Would you do it for me”…That is where our humility comes in to play…We “Quietly” place the needs of others above our own & try our best to be of service…

So Let’s get Started

This morning  I was reading about friendship & how it is that we should always try to be a friend first & then friendship with others will follow…I thought about what it is to be a friend & it became clear to me that there are several different components to being a friend…

First, Kindness & Generosity…Sticking out your hand to say hi & then be willing to devote some time to learn about the person in front of you…Second, Honesty…Telling your story as it is & not trying to embellish upon the details to make yourself sound Bigger, Better, Faster…& lastly Trustworthy…Let your new friend feel like they can share their difficulties…Their ups & downs…Without fear of reproach or betrayal…these are just the basics of friendship but they are the rudiments that will make a friendship survive…

I invite your comments about your experiences & share your knowledge…
